Faults we fix
- No signal on every channelUsually a failed cable joint, water in a plug, or an aerial blown off its bracket.
- Picture freezing or breaking into blocksSignal is reaching the TV but too weak or too noisy. Often corroded connections or a worn-out aerial.
- Some channels missingTypically the aerial is pointing slightly off the transmitter, or one group of frequencies is being lost.
- Worse in wind or rainA loose bracket, a cracked cable sheath letting water in, or a mast that moves in the wind.
- Problems started after a stormEdinburgh wind regularly twists aerials round on their poles. Realignment and re-fixing is quick.
- Fine in one room, bad in anotherThe fault is inside: a splitter, amplifier, wall socket or fly lead rather than the aerial on the roof.
Repair first, replace only if it needs it
Poor or no signal doesn't automatically mean you need a new aerial. A lot of installers fit a new one without finding the real fault. We diagnose first, which has saved plenty of Edinburgh households the cost of an aerial they didn't need.
Our aerial diagnostic checklist
Every repair visit follows the same checks, so nothing is missed:
- Check the aerial is aligned to the transmitter
- Test the internal and external cables for signal loss
- Test and tune what's connected: Sky, Freesat and Freeview boxes and TVs
- Check every aerial and satellite point in the property
- Test the equipment to rule out a hardware failure
- Pin down the cause of the problem
- Give you a fixed price for the repair before any work starts
Thinking of replacing your aerial? Call us first. We'll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.
How we find the fault
We test the signal at the TV, at the wall socket and at the aerial itself with a proper signal meter, so we can see where the signal is being lost instead of guessing. That means you only pay for the part that's actually broken.
Most homes in Edinburgh and the Lothians take their Freeview signal from the Craigkelly transmitter across the Forth in Fife. If an aerial has been knocked even a few degrees off that line, or it's an old narrow-band aerial, channels drop out first on windy days.
Repair or replace?
If your aerial is sound, we repair it: new cable, new connectors, re-fixed brackets or a realignment. If it's corroded through, cracked, or a decades-old model that can't pull in all the current Freeview multiplexes, we'll tell you, show you why, and give you a fixed price for a replacement. You decide before any work starts.
Before you call: three quick checks
- Press the Source or Input button and make sure the TV is set to the right input (TV, HDMI for a box). It's a common cause of "No signal".
- Run a full retune from your TV or Freeview box menu. Channels sometimes move frequency and a retune brings them back.
- Check the cable at the back of the TV and at the wall socket is pushed fully home and isn't kinked.
If that doesn't sort it, call us. We'll often be able to tell from your description whether it's an aerial fault or something inside.

TV aerial repairs: common questions
Can a TV aerial be repaired, or do I need a new one?
Most faults are repairable: cables, connectors, brackets and alignment. We only recommend a new aerial when the old one is physically damaged or can no longer receive all the Freeview channels.
How quickly can you come out?
Same-day visits are often possible across Edinburgh and East Lothian, especially if you call in the morning. Otherwise it is usually the next working day.
Will I know the price before you start?
Yes. We diagnose the fault first and agree a fixed price with you before doing any repair work.
Could 4G or 5G masts be causing my problem?
Sometimes. Mobile signals near TV frequencies can cause interference, especially if you have a signal amplifier. We can fit a filter where that is the cause.
Do you repair Sky, Freeview and Freesat problems?
Yes. If the service comes through an aerial or a satellite dish, we can repair it. See our Freesat, Freeview and Sky Q page for more.
Do you repair satellite dishes as well?
Yes. We repair, realign and replace satellite dishes and LNBs. See our satellite dish repairs page or call to book.
